The 2007 Sustainable Agriculture Education Association conference is an opportunity for you to reflect on the issues most important to you in your education (see announcement). Students from all over the country will be participating in discussions and workshops focused on which learning approaches, curricula, and experiences have worked best for them in their pursuits of an education in sustainable agriculture. Students will have opportunities to network and strategize with other students engaged in developing student farms, gardens and sustainable food systems projects. This is your education. Please come and work with other students, and staff, faculty and administrators, so that we can all participate in developing new possibilities for learning our way to a more sustainable agriculture. Please keep in mind, this conference does not focus on sustainable agriculture per say, rather it focuses on the issues of post-secondary education and its practice, theory, philosophy, programs, curricula, and pedagogy. The conference will not deal with agronomic, ecologic or food systems topics, it will only focus on improving ways of facilitating learning about these topics in the context of colleges and universities. That being said, you do NOT need to be studying education or social sciences to participate in meaningful ways. Any student pursuing any aspects of sustainable agriculture will get and give something valuable to this education conference. As a primary stakeholder in sustainable agriculture education, we need to know what you want and what works for you! Together we can all make education serve our sustainable agriculture goals. FUNDING There are limited scholarships available to cover conference room and board expenses. There is no conference fee for students. Students can participate in the conference with no charge, if they cover their own room and board accommodation in Ithaca, New York. However, students are encouraged to reside and share meals on the conference grounds for the sake of fostering a cohesive learning community. Students are invited to give presentations and host workshops, as well as present posters. Students are also encouraged to seek transportation funding support from their home departments, colleges and undergraduate and graduate student associations. There are many funding opportunities available to help students gain experience attending and presenting at professional academic conferences. Our conference staff can write invitations and confirmation letters to assist you with funding applications.
