This series of Grower Guides for beginning specialty crop growers was developed as part of a project funded by the California Department of Food and Agriculture.*

The guides and supporting materials offer resources for beginning farmers focused on organic and sustainable production practices, small-scale diverse systems for direct marketing, and production efficiencies to help small-scale producers develop economically and environmentally sustainable operations.

Specialty crops covered include: bush beans, cut flowers, dry-farmed tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, winter squash, as well as mixed production blocks grown for community supported agriculture (CSA) and other direct markets. Additional guides address tillage, bed formation, and planting to moisture; and pest and disease management in selected crops.
