2019 Fall Harvest Festival

September 29, 2019, 11am - 5pm at the UCSC Farm

Plan to join us for this campus and community event at a new location on the UCSC Farm—the Life Lab Garden Classroom.

Fun for all ages, the Harvest Festival features live music, workshops, kids crafts and activities, an apple pie contest, lots of yummy food, and much more! Enjoy the beauty of the 30-acre organic campus farm at our biggest "open farm house" of the year. This year we will also celebrate 40 years of Life Lab

Plus hay rides, kids’ crafts, face painting, floral crafts, UCSC Farm organic produce and flowers for sale, roasted corn, fresh-pressed apple juice, yummy food, and more. Be sure to attend the "More than a Farm" Tours to learn about the research, social justice work, and community outreach happening at CASFS!

Admission is free for UCSC students, kids 12 and under, and members of the Friends of the UCSC Farm & Garden; general admission is $5 (cash only). Be sure to bring your reusable water bottle!

We encourage attendees to walk, bike, bus, or secure ride services to the farm. Limited parking will be available. Please do not park at the farm's back gate. There will be no admittance at the back gate this year. For more information call (831) 459-3240 or email casfs@ucsc.edu.

Directions to the UCSC Farm:

To reach the UCSC Farm from Parking Lot 116

  • Continue up the hill from the UCSC Main Entrance information kiosk on Coolidge and turn right at the Ranch View/Carriage House Road stoplight into the Carriage House/Campus Facilities parking lot (Lot 116). The Farm is a 5-minute walk across the street from the parking lot.
  • Walk across Coolidge and follow the signs that say Center for Agroecology/Farm Pedestrians.
  • Walk 1/5  mile up the gravel road that parallels the paved bike path to a short set of stairs and a wooden entrance gate. PLEASE BE CAREFUL NOT TO WALK ON THE PAVED BIKE PATH! BIKES COME DOWN THE HILL RAPIDLY!

Additional parking will be available at the Barn Theatre Lot.

Official Rules for the Friends of the UCSC Farm & Garden Apple Pie Contest

Pie entries accepted 11 a.m.–12:30 p.m.

Official judging begins at 12:45 p.m.

Winners will be announced at between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.

  1. The Friends of Farm and Garden Apple Pie Bake-Off is a nonprofessional baking competition open to Harvest Festival attendees.
  2. Contestants are responsible for submitting a written (preferably typed) recipe with their pie.
  3. Contestants are responsible for supplying all ingredients and baking the pie prior to bringing it to the contest.
  4. All entries in this contest must be homemade.
  5. A representative of the Friends of the Farm & Garden will assign each contestant a number. Contestants should verify that the number on the bottom of their container is the same number assigned by the representative.
  6. Contestants’ entries are judged on taste, presentation, and creativity.
  7. The decision of the judges shall be final. Pie not consumed during judging will be returned to the contestant.
