Friends of the UCSC Farm & Garden announce summer 2019 community workshop schedule

The upcoming series of summer workshops will cover gopher control, floral design, seed saving, garden herbalism, and field sketching.

Learn to create beautiful floral arrangements at a workshop taught by flower growers and designers Caroline Martin and Laura Vollset.

The Friends of the UCSC Farm & Garden will offer a series of 2019 community workshops this summer and into fall that cover gopher control, floral design, seed saving, garden herbalism, and field sketching. Build your skill set and learn techniques to keep your crops safe from pests, grow herbs for your health, save your own seeds, and create floral arrangements or artwork inspired by a garden setting. 

Workshop instructors include Thomas Wittman, founder and owner of Gophers Limited, Caroline Martin of Wild Moon Flowers, Laura Vollset of Fieldsketch Farm, artist Tina Somers, Darren Huckle, practitioner of Wester and Chinese herbal medicine, and Kellee Matsushita-Tseng of the UCSC Farm & Garden.

  • July 14, 9:30 am – 12:30 pm: Gopher Control in the Home Garden and Small Farm

  • July 21, 9:30 am – 12:30 pm: Foam Free Floral Design for Vases and Vessels

  • August 24, 9:30 am – 11:30 am: Sketching in the Garden

  • September 8, 9:30 am – 12 pm: Garden Herbalism for Digestive and Respiratory Health

  • September 14, 9:30 am – 12:30 pm: An Introduction to Seed Saving

Workshops are geared toward beginning and intermediate gardeners, floral designers, herbalists, and sketchers, although all experience levels are welcome to attend.
